It is a great pleasure to bring out to light the English Writing Club magazine that relies mainly on the genuine contributions of the students of English in High School. The reasons behind this initiative were multiple and various. The primary guiding goal, however, was to provide students with a sort of free forum where they can express themselves in a language which is not theirs, exchange ideas and opinions about a variety of topics and issues, etc, and overall to see in tangible terms that they can write English.
The first and second issues were met with wide acceptance and solid encouragement inside and outside the school. The magazine also fulfilled its main objectives and exceeded all the set expectations. First, immediately after the publication of the two issues and the beginning of years to follow, students’ interest and motivation towards the English Language and the English culture have increased noticeably. Second, a major number of the last two years’ baccalaureate participants have opted for their university studies to major in English. Comparably, this year’s issue has witnessed a so heavier downpour of contributions from students that for purposes of quality writing and subject importance a sort of rigorous standards had to be set.
The third issue was a coronation of the previous issues in that it received the best prize of the regional school magazine plus a letter of praise from the delegate’s of Taroudant.
As an extracurricular support and supplement, as it were, the magazine draws essentially on literacy skills, namely reading and writing. As for reading, students were provided with a collection of novels, novelettes, short stories, articles, and other books to read and write up a synthetic synopsis of the content for the magazine. This goal-oriented home reading helps students enrich and consolidate their vocabulary stock and expressional style. It also exposes the students to the various grammatical intricacies of the language.
Regarding writing, which is considered as a nightmarish experience that discourages and de-motivates most students, I see it fit to recommend the process approach that is based on a step-by-step progress. Students were asked to pre-write, write, and re-write before the final draft to develop the skills and the confidence requisite for effective writing. Besides, all the students were motivated and invited to contribute freely with whatever they want to write about. Knowing that their written productions appended with their names and photos would be published in the school English magazine was a strong motivation-boosting factor for them all and would doubtlessly give them a deep sense of achievement.

hello teacher . really i miss you this year . but i wish to be goood in any places . and i want tell you again that is a gooood a veryy veryyyy goood job .excellent .nice .very goood.
i wish you great continuation .
Rachid, that is a good job, indeed. The idea is strickingly excellent.
Practically, I did not manage to read the issues as the format is too
tiny for my eyes :). Anyhow, I believe that your magazine concerns
only the students within the walls of your lycee, right? That is good
so far.
Do you not think that it will be a nicer and better idea if you let
the students from other lycees jump over the walls into your magazine.
The issue will be richer, the name will be bigger, and the objective
will be wider?
Well, the magazine is one year old. I know. But give it a chance! I am
ready to help. Other teachers will willingly help, too. Surely, they
are sick of the smell of the ministry of education`s books. It is time
for them to stretch their pens and take their students to/for a
totally different walk - in another world.
Good job, chummy!
P.S. I added you to my msn, accept the invitation!
Please, help me encourage our mates to use English when they write
here. Those chatting signs aint English, I am afraid.
